Leicestershire is an old county in central England that is mentioned in the Domesday Book. It is bordered by no fewer than six other counties including Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Staffordshire. Indeed these county borders have changes very little since the days of the Domesday Book, unlike those of many other English counties. The county was originally named after Leicester, for many years its administrative centre. Bardon Hill is the highest point in Leicestershire at 278 meters.
